On Saturday 17 March we plan to go geocaching around Box Hill near Dorking. This will also give an opportunity to put some of the hiking skills to the test prior to the expedition.
This is a change of date. Instead of the planned event, we are teaming up with Snowdon troop. (We were both doing something similar on the same weekend. It makes sense to join forces.) This is also a good time to meet Snowdon troop ahead of our joint summer camp.
This is essential for Christian, Curtis, Sofia, Alessandro and Albert. You do need some training ahead of the expedition. It is recommended for all those attending the expedition. Plus it is great for any scout.
Geocaching is a fun globally supported activity that involves using a GPS enabled device to locate a small object hidden at a GPS co-ordinate. It is quite tricky to locate said object, and when you are successful you write your name in a small booklet and often leave some small item for the next Geocacher to find. A modern day treasure hunt.
Meeting Point: Scout HQ Craven Road
Meeting Time: 8:00
Departure Time: 8:05 (we need to leave promptly!)
Collection point: Scout HQ Craven Road
Collection Time: Approx 12:30
The first 15 scouts will have a seat in the minibus leaving from Addiscombe.
The scouts should be in Activity uniform (scout polo shirt plus scarf) with sturdy boots, Rain Jackets, and clothes appropriate for the weather on the day. A drink and snack should be brought to keep them going.
They should bring their mobile phones, loaded with a geocaching app to allow them to participate in the locating of the geocaches.
If not available then we can share devices that we have available on the day.
They should also bring a pen, and a small object that can be left in the geocache once found. (Small means something that can be left in a very small Tupperware box)
Please let us know whether you are able to attend this trip.
We hope that this will be an informative and fun outing.
