At Church Parade on 19th October 2014, Genny Dunbar received two very special awards from the District Team to recognise her long and dedicated service to the Group and to Scouting.
She was awarded with the “Silver Acorn” along with a 25 years of service badge.
“The Silver Acorn is not normally awarded until after at least an Award for Merit has been gained and a further five years’ service has been completed. Thus, it is seldom awarded for less than 20 years service, which should be specially distinguished and appreciably better than outstanding.
The Silver Acorn was instituted in 1932 as an award to rank between the Medal of Merit and the Silver Wolf. It was originally called the Silver Medal but changed to the Silver Acorn shortly after. It was also worn on the jacket and not around the neck. It was instituted as a St George’s Day Award in 1933 and the decision for it to be worn around the neck was made around 1952 when at the same time, the Bar to the Silver Acorn was instituted.”
Many congratulations to Genny and thanks for all the time she has dedicated to the Young People passing through her section.

There is a couple of weeks left to complete the homework for the Local Knowledge Badge.
Research and produce a short page about someone local to Croydon who is famous or can tell you about how Croydon used to be like many years ago. Please ensure that this is brought into Cubs by 6th October to be awarded the badge.
Thanks
Genny Dunbar

Becket Pack held a coffee evening charity fundraiser on 6th March 2013 at our HQ.
The event was well attended by cubs, parents and guests to make it a fun evening.
The cubs contributed by baking cakes and biscuits to sell on the cake stall, and keenly helped run the various stalls:
– Tombola
– Cakes & Biscuits stall
– Guess how many jellybeans in the jar
– Find the hidden treasure map
The leaders would like to thanks all the cubs and parents for providing the cakes/biscuits and prizes for the tombola, and thanks to all the parents who helped with drinks and refreshments.
We raised a grand total of £80. The cubs chose the ‘Shooting Stars’ charity to donate the money to.
Thanks to all who attended and contributed.

Our Group Autumn social was held at Bears Wood Campsite in October. A wide range of activities were on offer for children and parents alike. A special appearance by an Olympic torch bearer called Fitz made the day extra special.
